Tee from the Past: Frontier Village, San Jose, California
Our latest tee from the past is a revival of Frontier Village — San Jose’s answer to Disneyland. Frontier Village was a western-themed amusement park that opened in 1961. It was located on Monterey Rd and Branham Lane, and took up nearly a third of the Hayes Mansion estate.
It featured rides and attractions with names like, Lost Frontier Mine Ride, Kittyhawk, and Apache Whirlwind. There were trains, saloons, a main street arcade, a green gorilla named Kactus Kong, and so much more.
I remember the final years of Frontier Village, when Hannah-Barbera characters like Scooby-Doo and Fred Flintstone greeted visitors, and became the face of the park.
Frontier Village was finally closed in 1980. But they still hold Frontier Village reunions every summer. We designed this tee to hold on to that small piece of pioneer past!
